Career Change to Jewelry Retail: Resources & Advice

Les-  I'm considering a career change and need some advice. I have extensive sales experience but no inside industry knowledge.  What books /  magazines / online resources should I research in order to get my foot in the door with a respectable jewelry retailer?

Jewelry business is a tough business....very competitive and you need a lot of knowledge which in 28 years in the business Im still learning......
The best way to get started is through the Gemological Institute of America and sign up for a correspondence course, either Gems and Jewelry of Diamonds etc.... they have so much to choose from. In this way you will have much more credibility when seeking employment.
