Identifying & Valuing Vintage Harem Ring & Pendant Watch - Expert Assistance
QuestionI have two pieces that I am inquiring about. the first is what I believe is called a Harem ring. It has seven rings with very tiny stones and "wavy" design with a "clasp" in the back holding them together. On one of the middle rings it has "Sterling" and just below that, "Germany". This was purchased over thirty years ago at an antique show in NJ. I would love to know the history of this piece. The second piece is a pendant watch. It has a round turquoise "stone" with small seed pearls on one side with the watch face on the other. The watch has Americana on the face, but other than that there are no markings. It is small,an inch across. It has five lines of gold "braid" separating the front from the back. This was given to me over 40 years ago. I would also like to know the history of this one.thanks
AnswerHello Dee and thank you for your inquiry. The Harem ring "style" originated, of couse, in Turkey but were copied by other countries as your ring indicates. Here is a site that gives some insite into Harem culture. Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter:

The only watch company I find with this brand name is Americana Watch & Jewelry Manufacturing Company in New York c. 1950. I found no recent mention of the company so I imagine it is out of business.
Hope this helps and enjoy your jewelry !
