ANSWER: Hi Brenda,

I often get asked about these makers marks , they are difficult  to know especially as Im no jeweller... .14k is well ...14k of course  SUP  is a mystery maybe just the markers initials ... freeform is beautiful , uncommon.. thats right you wont find many pictures of items like this ...its just gorgeous and I bet it looks so nice on you .. best regards

QUESTION: hi again. Sorry to keep going on about my opal but I have to know, how/why is it in this shape? Is tha  ho  it would have coem out the ground? Is free form jewlery specific to a country (like germany you mentuined) Can u mail me a pic of your randmothers so I can see another one? The only "free form" I have seen are very small, cylinder shaped things with poor color and cheap. I sent you a side view. Any comments?

Answer
Its probably this shape because it was formerly a sea shell that was replaced by opal and the rough piece was not deep enough to cut a cabachon. It could have been  made  at a time when flowers were popular  with opal design ..if you email me I will email you the image  of my flower  cheers  rod@keadyopals.com
