Understanding Sapphire Clarity: What Are Those Stripes?

I recently purchased online a 1.11 CT medium blue sapphire ring for my mother.  When I received the ring the I found the stone had several clear stripes through the stone that are very apparent when exposed to strong light.  What can you tell me about this flaw.

Hi,

This is not uncommon, sapphire can have bands of color with clear zones.
It is not always noticeable when well cut.  When the color is place horizontal to the table, the stone could be half clear and appear to be solid color, by the way the light is reflected back through the color.
