Rhinestone Necklace Extension & Repair Options | Vintage Jewelry Care
QuestionI have a rhinestone necklace that belonged to my mother. It is too short for my daughter to wear for prom. It is probably around 60 years old. Can I find a rhinestone extension or what would you suggest I do to make it longer?
AnswerHello Patricia and thank you for your inquiry. Most of the older rhinestone necklaces run about 15" which is small in today's world. Depending on the type of catch you have at the back - if it is an "0" ring, you can buy some additional ones at a craft store and use them to lengthen it. Sometimes you can find ready-made extenders at craft shops or just use an older chain style necklace to make your own, but the necklace to be extended would need to have that type of ring either on the hook side of the piece or the other side. Hope this helps and good luck !
