How to Drill Gemstones with Diamond Drill Bits: A Comprehensive Guide

Question
I purchased some diamond drill bits for my wife who like to make custom jewelry.  I was not able to find any instructions on how to drill these hard stones.  What is the procedure for drilling gem stones?  Do you use beeswax or water drip to keep the drill cool.  What speed should she use?  You can send me to a web site that can tell me or provide instructions on drilling.  This is a hobby for her.

Answer
Hi Alan ,
sorry to answer late , Ive only just returned from the opal fields in central australia. I only use the drill with opal and its imperative to keep the stone cool as overheating will crack the stone . We only use drill to shape and  polish , but if you intend to make a hole , surely the answer is slowly slowly with any stone .. It depends also what your drilling and is she drilling to make a hole to make a bead ? If so , drill with the stone in water. Hope that helps some  best regards Rod
