Victorian Champlevé Enamel Buckle - Identification & Value
QuestionI was given a Victorian style Champleve enamel 2 piece buckle approximately 37 years ago.It was purchased at an antique store in England. I understand it is from circa 1880-early 1900's. The enamel has fall from some areas.I recently came upon it again and wondered if I could email a picture of it to someone... see if you know anything more than what I do. And possibly tell me who might be interested in purchasing it?
AnswerHello Sonia and thank you for your inquiry. Champleve enamel is beautiful but almost always suffers from age enamel wear. Perfect examples sell very high. Less than perfect pieces are often purchased by collectors to add to their variety but at much lower prices. My suggestion would be to check one of the online auctions such as ebay.com for champleve buckles to ascertain the current market value and perhaps offer yours for sale there. You might be able to locate a collector online and also offer it - use your browser search for champleve collectors. Here is an interesting site on champleve enamel - Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter. Hope this helps and enjoy your buckle !
