Why is My 10K Gold Ring Turning Black? Causes & Solutions

I purchased a 10K ring last month. About the fourth time I wore it, it turned black on the band, my skin didn't turn black, just the ring. I tried cleaning it with a very good metal polish, but it is still black. Could it be fake?

Hi Donna,

It is possible that the ring is a fake but it is also possible that it is to low carat weight and your body chemistry is reacting to the base metal in the ring.  If you have other 10K jewelry and it doesn't do that then it is more likely it is a fake. In any event you need to return the ring to where you bought it. Good Luck.
