Identifying Jewelry Hallmarks: Mexican Sterling & Omega Brooch
QuestionQUESTION: Hi. I have 2 questions. First, I have Mexcian sterling bracelet with an "O" crowned. Can you please tell me who this is? Second, I have a beautiful Art Deco/Nouveau brooch that has .925 and what appears to be a 6.3 with an Omega symbol. Do you know what this is? Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Ellen
ANSWER: Hi Ellen,
The lists I have of Hallmarks did not show a Mexican "Makers Mark" with a crowned "O" but that only means my source doesn't show it. Also consider that there is no quality stamp like '925' which is unusual for a piece with a makers mark. The other piece is stamped ".925" which is sterling silver and since it could be from many countries the possibilites are endless. I don't know this symbol offhand although I recall seeing it before. I would suggest going to http://www.925-1000.com/ and checking through their lists and photos to see if you can find a match. Thanks and good luck.

QUESTION: Hi. I have a necklace with a very large pendant. The back of the pendant has a stamped eagle with a #2 inside. My understanding is that the #2 was used by Goodspeed and ECP. It's stamped .925. There's circular writing some of which reads "hecho en Mexico" and the rest I can't decipher. Inside is the makers mark of an H with the left side turned into a J. JH but with one contiguous stroke. Do you happen to know who the maker was? Many thanks for your time and assistance.
Regards,
Ellen
AnswerHi again Ellen,
I'm sorry but my lists don't show the JH makers mark. The circular stamp is the location of the JH maker in Mexico but again I can't decipher it either. The "hecho en Mexico" resembles Jose Marmoledos stamp that was made in Mexico city and was Eagle "32", HECHO EN MEXICO. The 'J' is for Jose I think but I don't know the 'H'. Thanks
