Rare Heart-Shaped Maine Garnet: Formation & Value

Question
Hello Peter
I found a red heart shaped garnet that is naturally formed
and still is in the base rock. It's about 1/16 inch in length.
What's the mathematical probability of that shape of garnet in formed naturally? Wound it have much value at all.
Thanks
Ralph

Answer
Hello Ralph,

I am not a mathametician so I can't tell you about the probability of that in nature but I can tell you that the ctystal habit of garnet does not include heart shapes. The value is what a collector will pay for a naturally formed garnet heart. The fact that it is still in the host rock is important. You would need to compare the specimen to other Maine Garnet specimens if you can find some for priceing. Pricing small specimens is not my forte' but I know what you have is rare and therefore valuable. How valuable is up to the market. Thanks for asking,

Peter
