Questionhi i have a question for the past year or so i get palpatations pretty frequently, mostly after my heart slows down from being exerted or excited. but i have been noticing sometimes it races for no reason or palpatates for no reason. dr sent me for a chest xray and said its normal size and blood counts look good but im still worried. i hav another appt next week. does this sound like an arythmia of any kind? i am 24 have two kids and in pretty good health, ive been told that it sounds normal with a stethscope but havent hd any other tests. thanks
AnswerDear Tiffany,
Sounds like it may possibly be a mitral valve prolapse or an atrial fibrillation.
You may want to try and keep track of your pulse rate when you are having these palpitations. Do you have any other symptoms such as, nausea, sweating, dizziness or feeling faint.
If you feel your heart racing like you say, please make sure you have this checked out very carefully.
Normal heart size and blood counts are great but obviously something is not right.
Count your pulse rate for 1 minute when you feel the racing.
If you heart is beating over 90-100 beats per minute you need to find out why? Don't be afraid to ask for answers.
Document rate, signs/symptoms, date time and activity.
Doctor may suggest a holter moniter. This is a little machine that records the hearts activity.
Stress may be a factor too but please find out what it is and get it treated.
Let me know the outcome.
