Italy Gold Markings: Understanding 'IT' on 18k Jewelry

Question
Hi Thomas suggested i contact you with my question below.  Thank you!

Hello- I have a lovely 18k and ruby gold brooch that is probably about 60+ years old. It came out of a very wealth estate on the east coast. It is marked 18k but also marked ITALI Did Italy ever use this spelling on their gold? Its definitely a straight I and not the side of a worn Y. Thank you in advance for any guidance on the spelling of Italy!

Answer
Hello Stacy and thank you for your inquiry. Yes, I have seen various items marked with ITALI.  I don't know if this is a specific company logo spelling or a legal descriptive term. I'll do some more digging and if I find out anything else, I'll let you know. Hope this helps and enjoy your brooch !  sounds beautiful !
