Gold vs. Gold Plated: How to Tell the Difference

thank you for taking the time to help me!  I am kinda poor and i wondered if there is some solution like ammonia or baking powder that helps to tell the difference between real gold or plate?

Hello Marsala and thank you for your inquiry. No, unfortunately the only way to tell is if the item is marked as to karat gold or with an acid used by jewelers and appraisers. You might check with your local antique shop or museum - sometimes they have a day every so often where they will appraise (test) items for free. Hope this helps and good luck !
