PCOS & Your Doctor: Should You Discuss Concerns with Your Primary Care Physician?

Question
Hi

I know you're supposed to see a reproductive endocrinologist about PCOS (at least I think), but do I bring up my concern about it to my regular doctor? I'm seeing an endocrinologist next week about some blood tests, should I mention anything to her? I guess I'm a little apprehensive to say anything, but it is an issue that concerns me. Any advice would be gladly appreciated :)

Answer
Hi Danielle!
Yes, I would tell my regular Dr what's been going on and request that copies of any tests and/or diagnosis be sent to her. Usually it's easiest to ask the lab to send a copy to your regular Dr at the time you have the testing done. Then if/when your endo makes a diagnosis, I would also ask them to send her a letter. Or you can ask the endo to forward everything- that is up to you. This will prevent tests from being duplicated and you having to pay for them twice, or your insurance company balking because of duplicates or tests being repeated too soon. In reality, any Dr that you see for any reason should be provided copies of any labs, medications, testing, conditions, etc. This keeps everyone on the same page and prevents mistakes being made because one Dr doesnt know what another one is doing or treating. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know :-)
