QuestionI am 32, it is my first baby. My first day of my last period was June 30th, which would have put my due date at April 7th, however I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks(they thought) and I turned out to be 9, therefore making my due date April 25th. So I am now past that. I will be 41 weeks on May 2.
The baby has not dropped yet at all, the dr. can barely feel my cervix with one finger. So I go for a biophysical on May 2, and depending on the results will be induced on Friday May 5th.
How successful are inductions if the baby has not dropped? Why wouldn't the baby have dropped yet, I've heard with first baby;s they drop 2-4 weeks ahead of time. I'm worried that if she hasn;t dropped she may be too big, and I should just go straight to c-section.
I've had a heathly perfect pregnancy.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

AnswerOne of the indications for a primary cesarean sectioin is a "floating vtx at term". I would not immediately have a cesarean section without trying a trial of labor. If your biophysical profile is good, you can still wait until 42 weeks before being induced. If you decide to have an induction, a Cervidil suppository should be inserted in your vagina to "ripen" your cervix. After 12 hours, the suppository will be removed and Piticon will be started. Inductions can be very successful. If there is no progress, a cesarean section will be done. The biophysical profile should also give an estimated fetal weight. If the baby is over 9.9lbs, I would suggest an elective cesarean. If it is less than 9lbs, you can try the induction.
