Question-------------------------
I consulted a nurse at my doctors office and she said the fever blisters are from my immune system shutting down and my body is distressed from the changes from being pregnant. She said it happens also as I might break out too, which I'am. I don't understand why you have such a different answer from hers. Maybe cause your not a woman and couldn't imagine the changes a woman goes through from being pregnant. I believe everyone's body is different and will adjust to pregnancy in it's own way. I certainly know you can get fever blisters whether being pregnant or not because I get them all the time, just this time a lot worse. I wish you could of at least done a lot more research on my question instead of answering with something I already know. I could of asked my mom, if I was going to get an answer like you gave me. I know your advice is based on no guarentee facts but your the expert. I definitly need a second opinion. Thanks.
Question -
I'm 33 yrs old (34 in May)and I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my first child. I just want to know if it is normal to get fever blisters on your lips during pregnancy if so should i consult a doctor? and why is it happening?
Answer -
The pregnancy, itself, will not cause you to get fever blisters. However, it is not uncommon to get fever blisters on your lips, whether you are pregnant or not.
AnswerPregnancy, itself, will not cause fever blisters, even though there are many changes that occur during pregnancy. Fever blisters are caused by Herpes Type I and are seen on the mouth and mucus membranes in the mouth and lips. I am basing my answer on 25 years of practice specializing in high risk obstetrical management and I find it interesting that you are very quick to believe an office nurse who is talking off the top of her head. Since there is no treatment during pregnancy for these fever blisters, I did not suggest any treatment to you when I ansered your question. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the answer.
