Understanding a Blood Clot During Early Pregnancy: What to Do?

Question
My friend was pregnant 50days ago.Unfortunately she fell down at about 35days and bleeded a little. On the ultrasound image of uterus, there is a mass of blood above the embryo? My questions are as follows:Is the mass hazardous to the embryo. Will the mass disappear spontaneously? Should she take any medicine now?
I hope your response eagerly! Thank you very much indeed1

Answer
Hi Sarah
I think your friend should have asked her doctor this question, as he will have seen the ultrasound. He would have seen the size of the mass of blood and where it was in the womb.

The bleeding could have come from tearing of the sac in which the embryo lies, or from the placenta, the ultrasound would have shown where the bleeding was and would have indicated the amount of bleeding.

The answer I would give would be dependent on where in the womb the mass is. I shouldnt think the mass will be hazardous to the embryo, unless it is the area where the embryo has implanted. as the baby grows, it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I am not sure that it will disappear sponateously, and what medicine was she thinking of taking?

When the baby is about 14-15 weeks another ultrasound should be done to see what is happening with this mass and how the baby is growing.

Advise your friend to talk to her Obstetrician who would be able to answer this question much better
