Chemical Exposure During Pregnancy: What To Do at Work?

The building where I work is being remodeled and right now they are changing carpets in different offices. They said they found some kind of pest. A co-worker who is also pregnant called me this morning and told me that her doctor said she can't be here and to get out of this building a.s.a.p. What should I do? My working section is not going to be too happy if I have to leave work...

Hello Alma- the fumes from new carpeting can make some people quite ill and I think it might be a good idea to stay away for a week or so. The pests themselves are not likely a problem, but if they use chemicals to get rid of them- THAT is a problem. Find out more about what is going to happen around that and then make your decision. If you must miss work, you should be paid since it is not due to anything YOU have done. Hope that helps- Cheri.
