Hi, I am 23. I have one son. And the date of my last menstrual period was 5/24/04. First of all, let me tell you that my husband and I are trying to conceive our 2nd baby. I am charting and observing my cervical mucus, and for the past two days I am not sure what it could be... I think it is a yeast infection, but I am also waiting to get the "egg-white cervical mucus" could these two look similiar? I am going with my gut instinct and saying it is a yeast infection, because it looks like "cottage cheese". My cycles vary from about 28-33 days and I ovulate around cycle day 17-19. So I believe I have Ovulated. I have done some research on the internet, and it says that yeast infections are common in pregnancy. Do you think it can show up so very soon? I am guessing I should make an appt with my ob/gyn. Or is there some over-the-counter stuff I can use. I have heard that cranberry tablets help? If so, is that safe to take, if I am pregnant? If you are familiar with charting, I can somehow show you my chart, if you would like... If you could get with me asap. As far as making my observations for todays cerical mucus, I don't know what to put.
Thanks!

A yeast infection can occur during pregnancy and when you are not pregnant. Yeast infections are the most common type of vaginal infection and are not an indication of pregnancy, although they can occur during pregnancy. They usually are accompanied by a cheezy white discharge, so you may have a yeast infection. It is difficult to distinguish the "egg whaite" cervical mucus from a yeast infection, and you should not use the cervical mucus texture as an indication of ovulation. If your cycle ranges from 28-33 days, you can ovulate from cycle day #14-19. If your last period started on May 24, you probably ovulated between June 6-11. If you did conceive between June 5 and today, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days later, or between June 20-27. YOu are due for your next period June 20-25. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after you have missed your period. If the pregnancy test is positive, you should make an appointment with your doctor 8 weeks from the first day of your last period (July 18). There is no reason to see your doctor sooner. If a pregnancy test is negative on June 27, you are not pregnant. If you get your period, you are not pregnant. If you are charting your basal body temperature, ovulation is indicated by a rise in the overall temperature (after a short dip) and you should see a "biphasic curve". Good luck to you.
AnswerA yeast infection will not interfere with your ability to become pregnant. Yeast ("candida albicans") is an opportunistic fungal infection. It is an organism that lives in your vagina and minds its own business, until there is a change in the pH (acid-base) of your vagina. This can occur in times of stress, after taking antibiotics, or even after having an argument with a cop who stops you for a traffic infraction. Then it flares up and you gete itching, a white-cheesy discharge, and, sometimes, a beefy-red vulva. It will not interfere with conception. If the sperm meets the egg and fertilizes it, you will become pregnant.
