Pregnancy & Workplace Hazards: Understanding Risks of Exposure

Question
i found out a week ago that i am pregnant, about a month along or so. I work at a landfill scalehouse where i weigh trucks in all day long. From what i have read so far, car exhaust fumes are very dangerous for the placenta and fetus.

Is this a horrible danger? I am looking for other employment, but i don't want to be here any longer than i have to if it's going to cause defects in my child.I could use a little more information. thanks

Answer
Hello I won't pretend I am an "expert" on car exhaust fumes.  But what I do know is often things in the earliest weeks that have been done before you know you are pregnant do not harm the fetus.
If you must work there I suggest a mask.  You may feel a little dorky but at least you and the baby would be protected.
In the meantime, give your Dr. a call, they would be able to better assist you on this.  Good luck and Congrats!
