Pregnancy Possibility: Understanding Missed Periods & Positive Test

Question
My name is Rhonda Feurtado and I am 24years old and have one daughter that is 8 years old and I carried her full term with no complications.

I had sexual intercourse in February of 2004 on two seprate occassions, the 23 and 24. I had my menstrual cycle in the month of March and April but not in May or this past month in June, I have just taken a test and it did come back postive. Now I have had some medical procedures done in the last few months, I had oral surgery(wisdom tooth extraction) with the use of Novocain, three x-rays and being put on several pain medications and steriods. I am not wanting to have this child either but would like to know if there are any risks that may have put the fetus in danger to recieve a medicla necesary abortion espically since i am over the 16th week mark. Just to add this there are no other days that I had sexual intercourse i concived on one of those following days.

please help!

Answer
If you had a normal period in March and April, but have a positive pregnancy test now, it is impossible to know when, exactly, you conceived. (In spite of knkowing that you had iintercourse on February 23 and 24.) You should have a sonogram as soon as you can. Then you can determine the exact date of conception. If you know the date of conception, you can also determine if there are any dangers to the baby from the X-rays that you took. Novacaine is perfectly safe for use during pregnancy, as are steroids.  You did not mention which pain medications you took, but most are safe for use during pregnancy as well. Depending on where on your body you had the X-ray, it may or may not be O.K.  Usually, during an dental X-ray, you are shielded with a lead apron, so there is no problem.  If you had an X-ray of your pelvis or lower abdomen, there may be a problem. Let me know what the sonogram shows and when and where you had the X-rays.
