Understanding Cervical Ripening & Induction: What You Need to Know

Question
My daughter is expecting August 30. She has been told that if the baby hasn't arrived by September 3 they will admit her to the hospital for a cervical clamp. I've never heard of this and can't find info anywhere. What exactly is this?

Answer
Hello Darlena- I think your daughter has misunderstood what has been said. She needs to require her dr to fully explain what kind of induction is being considered. By the way- MOST inductions end up in c/sections and are done for the convenience of the dr and the hospital. Try to encourage her to let mother nature decide when the time is right. She has the right to refuse ANY procedure she does not want. All the best- Cheri.
