Early Pregnancy Bleeding: What to Know & When to Worry
QuestionSecond preg. On monday I started spotting and freaked out. I have never had a m/c. Went to the emergancy hospital and was checked out they saw the baby, the heart beat and told me I was 8weeks 6 days. Stopped bleeding 2 hrs later. The Dr said he doesnt think I am going to have a m/c but cant say 100%. The next day I started discarging brownish stuff and called the clinic I will start going to next monday, just paperwork. (they dont see anyone till 12 weeks) and talked to a OBGYN nurse and she said not to worrie it will stop today. That was Teusday it is now Friday and I am still discarging the brownish stuff. 5 days? They wont see me till my next appt which I dont know when that is, in the next 2 weeks? They say if I am going to m/c there is nothing they can do to stop it. I want to know if the brownish discharge is normal? or should I go to the emergany hospital again. Am I in the process of having a m/c? I am trying to stay calm but it is hard. No cramping or bleeding. Thank you for your time. I am now 9 weeks 2 days
AnswerAs the baby grows in the uterus, it is common for "old blood" from the uterus to be pushed out due to the growth of the baby. This is usually brownish and is not heavy bleeding (like a period). It is normal. YOu do not have to go to the ER unless you are bleeding heavier than a normal period and have severe abdominal cramps. If they saw an 8week 6 day fetus with a heartbeat, I doubt that you will miscarry. HOwever, they are correct in saying that there is nothing you can do in any event. There is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage. It occurs in 15-20% of every pregnancy. If you are not bleeding heavily, don't worry.
