Subchorionic Hemorrhage & Early Pregnancy: What to Expect

Question
Good Day! thank you for taking the time out of your day to answer my question!

i am 30 years old (31 next month)  mother of 3 boys and 9 weeks 5 days pregnant with baby #4.  i am slightly at risk for miscarriage due to a diagnosed subchorionc hemorrage at 6 weeks by sonogram.  it was small.  anyway there has been very little spotting not even enough to wear a liner and not every day maybe once or twice a week.  ok I have rented a doppler for my piece of mind.  i have a very tilted uterus but at 8 weeks 5 days a rolled up a large bath towel and put it under my hips.  after a few minutes of searching with the doppler i had found the wonderful sound of life within me.  the heartbeat was at 168 bpm.  which i feel is pretty good.  it was strong and pretty loud.  since then i have checked the heartbeat every evening before bed. (average 168bpm's) I sometimes check in the mornings.  it brightens my day.  now that i hear the heartbeat every day, what are chances of miscarriage i am not looking for numbers just a high, low, or average will do me.  also is the continual use of a doppler a bad thing, could i be harming the baby?  i was told that i could hurt the baby if i use a doppler too much.  again thanks for taking the time to answer my questions
sincerely,
michelle

Answer
Hello Michelle. If you care about this child's hearing and learning abilities in the future- you MUST stop using the doppler. Ultrasound has NEVER been proven completely safe for the fetus and I don't even use u/s scans routinely- ONLY if there is vaginal bleeding or some other medical emergency. What you are doing is VERY unsafe. STOP. Until this pregnancy is 12 weeks along there is nothing anyone can or SHOULD do to stop a spontaneous abortion if it happens. Your listening to the heart every day does nothing to help the baby- I know it seems to make you feel better, but your baby may be paying a price. Please let go of these feelings of insecurity and trust that whatever happens is supposed to happen.  Please read a book called Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin. All the best- Cheri.
