Infertility Concerns: Understanding Conception After Birth Control & Prior Relationships

Question
I have been trying to get pregnant now for about 3 months straight. And have not been able to get pregnant at all. We have been trying everyday now, and nothing has happened. I have a child of 4 years old and I was on birth control for about 1 year. After intercourse with my husband it seems to be abnormally wet down there. Like thinner then usual and a lot of an amount. Do you think there may be something wrong with my husband? Because my child is not from him it from another man. Should my husband get tested or do you think it may just be from being on birth control for so long.

Answer
If, after stopping the birth control, you are now getting your period regularly each month, you should have no problem getting pregnant. If you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. YOu can ONLY become pregnant if you have sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. You cannot become pregnant on any other day of the month, so you should not have intercourse every day, or you may deplete the store of sperm. If, after trying to conceive for 12 months, you have had no success, then you should contact a reproductive endocrinologist for an infertility workup to check your husband's sperm, your ovulation, your tubes, etc. For now, just concentrate on intercourse at those days each month.
