Unexpected Pregnancy & Ultrasound: What to Expect at 10 Weeks
QuestionI am 23 with one son that is almost three. He was delivered c-section. I just found out that I am 10 weeks pregnant. I took a test at home three weeks ago and it was negative. A week later, I decided to go to my doctor and their test came up positive. They said that I was eight weeks exactly that day and they also did a sonogram that showed me where the baby was. I believe my last period was around the first of October and I went to the doctor on Nov. 24th. Last night I was laying in bed on my back and I found a hard lump the size of a small egg right near my c-section scar. My question is, could my test at the doctor's office become positive from high hormone levels due to a cyst? Or could this be just scar tissue formed near my scar? And if so, how will my body hold together during the full pregnancy with out anything ripping? I would also like to know if I am more than likely pregnant like my doctor says, what could the lump be from? I know these are a few questions, but I want to make sure that if am pregnant I do everything to protect my baby. Thank you for your time.
AnswerIf your last period started on October 1, then you were 7 weeks 4 days on November 24. A sonogram probably confirmed that. The lump that you feel near the incision is probably scar tissue and will not interfere with the pregnancy at all. It will not undermine the incision nor cause any weakening of the incision. The only way you could have a positive pregnancy test is with the presence of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropic hormone), which is the hormone of pregnancy and is not produced by any other situation. It is quite common to have scarring from the previous c-section that appears as a lump or nodule in the area of the scar. If they saw the fetus on sonogram, there is no doubt that you are pregnant.
