Delayed Period After Birth Control - Is There a Concern?
QuestionI am 27 years old, no children, the date of my last period was October 16. I stopped taking birth control pills in February and have been trying to get pregnant. I have had periods with a 30 day cycle until now. I have taken 3 pregnancy tests that all are negative. I have had no bleeding at all. I had my annual exam with my gynocologist in September. She told me to take vitamins, etc. I have not been under stress had any health problems. Should I suspect a medical problem? Should I make an appointment see my gynocologist?
AnswerIf your last period started on October 16, and you have not had any bleeding since then, and three pregnancy tests have shown a negative result, you certainly should see a gynecologist to find out what is going on. First, you should get a blood test for pregnancy (Beta HCG) to make absolutely sure that you are not pregnant. Then your period should be induced for you using Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days. It is probably merely some hormonal imbalance and will straighten itself out. Don't worry, but do make an appointment with the gyn.
