QuestionDear Doctor,
I am from goa, In nov 2008, I was detected with bilateral endometriotic ovarian cysts, as i was always complaining of severe pains during my menses. As one of the cysts bursted, i had to undergo surgery in dec 2008 because of adhesion. My intestine and reproductive organs were stuck together and also i had severe appendicitis. The cysts, some ovarian tissue and appendix were removed and everything cleaned up. my tubes were also saved as claimed by my gynac. I suddenly lost 4 kgs after the surgery and didnt get my menses for 5 months, so i took a second opinion and did my hormones test. which showed that i had hyperthyroidism. so i was asked to take 10mg thyrocab for 2 month. but recent report has shown that my tsh has now gone above normal and t3-t4 have gone below normal and i also gained almost 3 kgs. For my menses to start my gynac gave me regestrone, then primolut and then duoluton. I have got my menses twice and am now on the 3rd cycle of duoluton. My gynac told that that these hormone pills will regularize my periods and will prevent the endometriosis from coming back. My ovaries are small now and i dont have PCOS. I am getting married soon and like to have children. Will i be able to have kids in future, as i have not yet started ovulating. i always feel bloated too. please help
AnswerHello,
Based on your history, you are going to have difficulties getting pregnant naturally. Just the severe endometriosis (stage IV) that you had is going to cause problems. There are no cures for endometriosis and it will recur. The adhesions, despite being "cleaned" will recur as well. You best bet for achieving pregnancy will be IVF. However, there are always exceptions to every rule and you might be one, so you should try on your own for at least 6 months. If you are not ovulatory (regular cycles per month) or don't get pregnant after this period of time, then you should see a reproductive specialist for treatment. At that point, I would advise going directly to IVF.
