Baby's Amniotic Fluid Leakage: Causes & Concerns in Early Pregnancy

I am just over 5months pregnant and went for my ultrasound today. I was told that the fluid sac around the baby was leaking ( not sufficient levels of fluid) My question is what causes this and what needs to be done to ensure that the baby can still be born healthy? One more question- How early can a baby be born and have a good chance at survival.

Hi Marnie,
sometimes it will seal off on its own, however, not usually. THey really don't know what causes it directly, however the longer the baby stays in the better chances of survival. There have been babies born this early and do fine and some don't, I had one just over 6mo and she never had a problem, so we can't discount these premies too soon. Are u on bedrest?
