Tracking Ovulation & Trying to Conceive: Safe Birth Control Discontinuation
QuestionME AND MY HUSBAND HAVE DECIDED WE ARE GOING TO START TRYING TO HAVE A BABY..IM ON BIRTH CONTROL AND I WAS READING UP ON HOW TO TRACK WHEN YOU OVULATE AND HOW TO COUNT THE DAYS WHEN YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO GET PREGNANT..MY QUESTION IS CAN I JUST QUIT TAKING THE BIRTH CONTROL A FEW DAYS B-4 IM SUBPOST TO OVULATE OR DO I HAVE TO COMPLEATELY QUIT TAKING BIRTH CONTROL? AND IF I DO JUST QUIT TAKING BIRTH CONTROL IS IT GOING TO EFFECT MY OVULATION DAYS THAT I HAVE ALREADY BEEN COUNTING FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS OR SHOULD I JUST FINISH OFF THE PACK...PLS HELP ME TO UNERSTAND THIS A LITTLE MORE, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP AND ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME...
AnswerWhile you are on birth control pills, you will not ovulate. That is how the pill works. You have to stop the pills and wait for a normal period. Then (if you normally have a 28 day cycle) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14 and you can conceive if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13,14, 15, or 16 each month. Stop the pills, wait for a period, and then start trying to conceive. YOu can also purchase an ovulation predictor kit from the pharmacy to pinpoint the exact day of ovulation. Good Luck.
