Qlara Birth Control: Concerns & Information for Users

Question
Dear Dr. Cheryl,

I have been on birth control for about 6 years, usually on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, which has worked well for me.  I recently moved to a different country and when I tried to get my prescription filled they offered me Qlara instead, because they didn't have the other (pharmacies are very lax here). I am little nervous to start Qlara, as I noticed its a fairly new pill promoted by Bayer, and my understanding is that they have had some problems in the past with Yas. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,
Lucia

Answer
Dear Lucia,

I cannot recommend any kind of birth control pill as I feel that the hormones are not healthy for a woman. This is just my opinion from research I have done privately. I'm glad that you did research as much as you could about Qlara. This shows responsibility. I would recommend any kind of non-hormonal birth control. May I ask you a question? Because I get questions from women about birth control and then with further questioning, find out that they don't really even need to be on birth control at all. So I will ask you that question. You can email me at CHERYL51@aol.com so we can talk privately.
