Understanding Spotting Between Periods: Causes & When to Worry
QuestionI have been on birth control for about 6 yrs now. For the past 3 months I have been spotting 1-2 wks before my period but still get my period as normal. I went to an ob-gyn and he prescribed me an antibiotic stating that my vagina was "inflamed". Is this normal? Can it be more serious than he thinks?
AnswerDear Cathy,
If your vaginal walls were inflamed and your doctor suspected an infection of some sort, this may have caused some spotting between your periods.
If the spotting continues into the next few cycles, it may be a hormonal issue and he may need to adjust the dosage or type of BCPs you are on. Either way, it is not an overly serious issue.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
