Followup To :thank you for such a nice answer,but i also wanna know that is b-hcg quant test can make error in a sense that like if i am pregnant but test doesnot show it,and also does this test needs too much care on part of Lab man when it is performed and his little error can make difference.or there is no chance of human error in it and is totally computarised.and also does kit and equipment used for it can also make differnce to its result.i know its stupid question but still want to know.

i am 16 years old.i wanna know that is there any margin of error in serum b-hcg Quant test as i took two different tests after 40 days of my last intercourse one Lab showed result of >1 and again after one week in same lab it showed>4.20 and other Lab showed >0 (zero) on both occasions i wanna know that from where these 4.20 harmones came although i took both tests at same time.so is there any margin of error in b-hcg quant serum tests and also can i still become pregnant with that4.20 value which i know is negative but very near to positive value that is 5.please answer me at any cost and in detaili be really really obliged

The reason that we consider any Beta HCG test of less than 5 to be a negative test is because there is , indeed, lab error and some labs have a negative of less than 1 while others show a negative at less than 4. You are not pregnant. If you were pregnant the Beta HCG would show a much, much higher number (in the thousands).
AnswerThe test is quite straight forward and there is little lab error. The numbers are quite evident. If you are pregnant, the numbers are very high and usually double every 48 hours. If the numbers are less than 100 it usually means that you are not pregnant. So you need not worry about fluctuations between 0, 1, or 4.20. Anything less than 100 usually means no pregnancy.
