QuestionI am 33, 1 child and first day of lmp was 6/1/04, and I am ttc. I've had numerous slight positives on hpt's and I have used different brands. The results appeared within the time frame specified and were the same colors, i.e., pink and blue, they were early pregnancy tests, sensitivity 25. This is the second month in a row that I have gotten positive results. One day they are quite positive, the next there is nothing. This continues throughout the month. I am quite skilled at taking pregnancy tests, and these are not evaporation lines, as they are read immediately. I had a period on June 1, and now 39 days later I have no period. I do have long cycles normally, approx. 40 days, but other months they have been less. Thinking I may be pregnant, my doctor performed a quant blood test and my serum was less than 2, indicating no pregnancy. Just wondering if you have any information as to what may cause hcg in urine, but not in blood. My doc thinks I'm a little nuts, but these tests have been viewed by others and they have also confirmed what I have been seeing. I do not believe I am having miscarriages every month, as I take the blood tests on the same day I get the positive hcg in urine and there is no way for it to diminish during the car ride to the doc. I'm just trying to get a diagnosis of pregnancy or whatever may be affecting the hcg hormone to be produced in my urine only. I have had one successful pregnancy 3/98 and one miscarriage, 2/19/04. Please reply if you can help out. THANKS!
AnswerIf a blood test for pregnancy (Beta HCG) is less than 5, you are definitely not pregnant. In a urine pregnancy test, the manufacturer claims that in order for you to consider it a positive result, the lines must be dark and bold. Any faint line or thin line must be considered to be a negative test. The best time to do a pregnancy test is 14-21 days after supposed conception. I would suggest not to perform a pregnahcy test until at least seven days after you miss your period. In any case, the blood test is more accurate.
