Pregnancy Test Uncertain? Understanding Missed Periods & Possible Pregnancy
QuestionDr.
My wife and I had sex several times when she was ovulating and she is now about 5 days late with her period. She normally has a very reguluar cycle. She took 1 preg. test before she missed her period, which was negative then took another one the morning or so after she missed her period and it kinda look like positive result, but we weren't sure it was an EPT plus minus test, and then 2 nights ago she took the EPT Test that says "Pregn, not Preg" digitally and it said Not Pregnan. but she still hasn't gotten her period. I called the local OBGYN office and they said that it's best to wait to take the home preg test about 7 days after you've missed your period and not to take it before, is that true? It hasn't been 7 days yet...also does the time of day matter when she takes the test? I know stress can also cause the period to be late as well so... What do you think? Should we wait until 7 days and then take it? Is there a Home brand preg test that you recommend? Please email us back- Thanks
AnswerThe best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after you miss your period. You did not menitoned when the first day of her last period was, so I can't tell you exactly when to take the test. If the pregnancy test at that time is negative, she is not pregnant. The time of day is not important, although morning urine sometimes gives a better result. If the test is negative, she may have missed her period due to some hormonal imbalance this month. Just wait to see if she gets her period next month. If she has a normal 28 day cycle, ovulation usually occurs on cycle day #14. She can ONLY conceive if you have sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16 each month. Good luck.
