Blocked Fallopian Tubes: Recanalization & Fertility Concerns - Expert Analysis

Question
I am 35 years old and I have a 7 1/2 year old son. My last period started 9 days ago on Aug. 15th. My last three cycles have been 24, 26, 25 days long. I believe I last ovulated on the evening of day 12 of a 25 day cycle...
May 3rd, 2005 I had an abdominal myomectomy and yesterday (8-22-05) I had an HSG that showed both tubes blocked, so he did a tubal recanalization ...he was able to open my left tube but the right remains blocked. My uterus is in great shape and both ovaries are fine. We are trying for a girl and I am a little depressed at the news of only have one tube open. Today is day 9...is it possible to try to conceive a girl. What I mean is...having only one useable tube, should I try for a girl (using Dr. Shettles method) or just try to get pregnant? Is conceiving possible 3 days before ovulation?

Answer
I would just  try to conceive. HOwever, if you have the Shettles directions, it cannot hurt to try for a girl. If your last period started on August 15 but the recanalization was performed onlyt yesterday, it may be too soon to try to conceive. YOu should ask your doctor if it is alright to try at this time or should you wait an additional month. If you have ovulated, you can conceive if you have sex one day prior to ovlation and up to 3 days after ovulation.
