Vitex and Menstrual Cycle: A Personal Experience
QuestionAge: 28
Children: 1
1st day of last period: September 3rd
Ever since I was in my teens, I've had very irregular periods. Over the past few months, my periods were very light. In June of 2005, I started taking Vitex in hopes of regulating my system so my husband and I could working on conceiving child #2. I heard it takes a few months to start working, and I think it finally did this month. My period started on September 3rd, a lot heavier than the normal periods I've had... more like the periods I had way back when I first started menstruating. This period hasn't been painful or extremely heavy, but it's been going on now for 11 days. I thought that maybe my body was 'cleaning itself out' of everything that had been 'left behind' during those recent extremely light periods. Is this something that I should be worried about?
AnswerYou should not have a period that lasts for more than 14 days at a time. If your period is regular, it does not have to be heavy. Keep a record of your next few cycles to see if they are within 21-35 days(from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period). Each period should not be longer than 10 days of bleeding. If it is longer than 14 days, consult your gynecologist.
