Provera & Clomid: Understanding Cycle Induction and Timing

Question
I am on Provera right now. I take 10mg everyday, and I was told that it would start my cycle. I have been taking them for three days with no sign of my cycle. Is this normal? And another question is, why would they perscribe provera to induce a menstural cycle, when it it supposed to stop ovulation? I am very confused, because according to my dr. Im supposed to start my clomid cycle in the next two days, but I havent started my period yet! Help me please!! Thank you!

Answer
Hello Tamiko,

The period usually doesn't start until you finish the Provera.  The usual regmimen to start a cycle is one tablet per day for five days.  Then the period would start within 7 days after the last tablet.  If the period does not start by 7 days, then you need to contact your doctor because a different regimen will need to be used.

Provera is used just to start the period.  Once the period starts, this is called cycle day # 1.  Clomid is then taken either cycle day #3-7 or 5-9, if your doctor is using the usual protocol.  The Clomid cannot be used until the period starts.
