Miscarriage and Uterine Adhesions: Potential Impact & Risks

Question
I am 26 with 2 children.I just had a miscarriage yesterday,I was 6w pregnant.(My dr thinks it died at 4w since LMP). I had a couple questions. My uterus is adhered to my abdominal wall and I was just wondering if that could have caused problems with implantation. Also I was told that having those adhesions will not cause any complications. Is it possible that if I get pregnant again, when my uterus stretches can my uterus seperate from my abdomin and cause major bleeding? Also I have heard many conflicting time frames on how long to wait after a miscarriage to try to conceive again.I had a natural miscarriage and did not need a D&C.Is it safe to try conceiving right away or does it increase your chances of having aother miscarriage? Is there anything you can do to help to try to prevent having another one?Thank you.

Answer
Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of EVERY pregnancy. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. Miscarriages do not occur due to adhesions of your uterus to your abdominal wall. The embryo implants inside the uterus and is not influenced by adhesions on the outside of the uterus.  There is no reason to wait any length of time after a miscarriage. Just wait for a normal period and then start trying to conceive again, if you are emotionally stable at this time. There is no medical reason to wait any longer. We only wait for a regular period so we can "date" the pregnancy when it occurs. Getting pregnant right away does not increase the risks of antoher miscarriage. Your risk is still 15-20%. Good Luck.
