Uterine Thinning and Small Window: Postpartum Concerns After C-Section
QuestionHEllo, I just had my 5th baby 17days ago via c-section, which made it my fifth c-section. Before I had my baby I decided not to tie my tubes because I was not sure if I was done having kids. During my c-section the doctor told me that I shouldnt have any more kids, because my uterus was very thin, and I have a small window in my uterus. I have never heared of this. I tired to look for more information but was not able to find any. Do you know anything about this? and should I really not get pregnant again?
AnswerDear Sharon,
A uterine window is often a term which describes a section of the uterus which has become so thin (usually from repeated stretching/pregnancies and especially repeat surgical scars) that you can see through the tissue. Obviously, with a section of your uterus being this thin, the risk of uterine rupture with any subsequent pregnancy would be incredibly high. A rupture is when the uterus tears open and the fetus, placenta, and a lot of blood fall into the mother's abdomen. This is obviously a catastrophic event of pregnancy and has led to both fetal and maternal death.
I'm sure your OB/GYN would have documented this finding in your medical records. You could get a 2nd opinion based on that, but if it were me - I personally would not want to risk it with a family depending on me. It would just be too risky.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
