Persistent Negative Pregnancy Tests & Abdominal Cramps: Seeking Answers

Question
I am 30 years old with no children.  The first day of my LMP was 9/26.  I have been having lower abdominal cramping (feels like I am getting my period every day), sore breasts and exhaustion like I have never known has recently been added to the mix. These symptoms began about a month ago.  All of the HPT come back negative and a friend who is a midwife did a blood test a little more than 3 weeks ago which came back negative.  My question is:  Can it take several weeks/months for a pregnancy to show up?  I saw my Dr. who told me there is no way it wouldn't show up positive now (although he didn't do a blood test) and that there is no answer to why I have been having these symptoms.  He told me to start taking medicine (Clomid/Metformin) after I've only been trying for a couple of months.  Could I possibly be pregnant or is there no way and I should go have a glass of wine and relax?

Answer
If your last period stated on September 26, by now a pregnqancy tewst would be accurate. If you have not had your period since September, you should have your doctor induce your period for you using Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your period within 10 days. Once you get your period, you can start trying to conceive once again. If you have not been trying to conceive for at least 12 months, you do not have to start Clomid or Metformin, unless you have been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).
