Safe Ways to Encourage Labor at 39 Weeks

Question
I'm 39w0d.  Five days ago I was 90% and 2 (and I believe either -1 or 0 station - I don't remember for sure).  Is there anything other than physical activities like walking or sex that will safely get this show on the road?  What about nipple stimulation (for short periods of time, of course!)?  The baby is measuring 45 weeks, so I'm extremely anxious to get him out.

This is my first baby...  Care to offer any guesses as to how long it will be before labor starts?  I thought 90% would mean very soon - but that was 5 days ago!  I'm getting frustrated.

Thanks for your help!  :)

Answer
You did not mention when your due date is. If this is your first baby, when you start having contractions at the level of your belly button that occur every 3 mintues (from the start of one contraction to the start of the next contraction) and each contraction lasts for at least 45 seconds (remains hard), then you should be checked. When your cervix dilates to more than 4cm, you will be admitted to the hospital. A cervical dilatatoin of 2cm and 90% is insignificant. The cervix must first efface to 100% and dilate uo 4cm. Usually, for the first baby, you will reach your due date or go up to two weeks after your due date before you go into labor. Don't worry. Walking or sex will help (there is prostaglandins in semen which causes labor to begin). I would not engage in nipple stimulation unless you are one week past your due date.
