First Prenatal Visit: What to Expect & Who Can Attend?

age 33 0 chidren ,my husband and I are expecting are first. I want to know what to expect on our first visit. My husband is concerned if he is welcome to support me in the exam room.

Most obstetricians welcome husbands and significant others at every visit. At your first obstetrical visit (at around 8 weeks from the date of your last period) you will be examined, a PAP smear will be performed, and a pelvic exam will be done. A fetal heartbeat will not be listened for because it is a bit too early for it to be heard. A complete gyn history will be taken as well as family history. You will be sent for blood work and possibly a sonogram (although most obs wait until 20 weeks for the sonogram). Discussion will be made about diet, medications, and diet.
