First OBGYN Visit: What to Expect & Due Date Estimation

Question
Hi,
Well first of all, I have no idea when my LMP was (whether it was 2 months or 1 month ago I have no idea because I never kept track of my menstrual dates) and sadly we don't even remember the day we conceived (and it's been a while since we've "done it." How will my OBGYN determine my due date if I won't have these answers for her?

Answer
Since you do not know your LMP then we will have o make appoximations about the age of pregnancy from two findings.

1. Size of the uterus on pelvic examination: This is not very accurate and it can at best give us an approximate date only.

2. Ultrasound: This is the more accurate of the methods and can reliably confirm the age of pregnancy within a time frame of plus or minus two weeks in the first trimester. The accuracy of USG increases as you progress in pregnancy so the EDD can change from one scan to another but it will be close to what your actual EDD is.

I have written an article on what to expect and what to do on your regular ante natal visits. You can read up this article here http://www.pregnancyandchildcare.info/pregnancy_articles/anc.html
