Question -
Hello,
You would help me a lot with your answer.
My Dad's sister has fraternal twins - is there a higher then average possibility that I have fraternal twins too? On my mother's side of a family there are no fraternal twins.
Thank you
Sandy

Answer -
Fraternal twins have a higher incidence in families with other fraternal twins. However, it is not known how to predict your probability of having twins. Identical twins do not increase the chances of having twins, but fraternal twins can.

Thank you for the super quick answer. So, this means that there is a higher possibility for me to have fraternal twins, even though we have fraternal twins only on my Dad's side of the family. One pediatritian has told me that the chance of me having fraternal twins would be increased only if there would be fraternal twins on my mother's side of a family, so I was confused. As I understand only if my husband had fraternal twins than would not increase the chance for me having f.twins, but it would increase the chance for our children. Am I right?

Answer
There is no formula that calculate the probability of having multiple pregnancies. If, however, there are ANY fraternal twins in the family (including the extended family), there is a higher chance of having fraternal twins. There is a higher chance of twins if the twins are on the mother's side of the family than the father's side of the family. HOwever, you cannot predict  twins on the basis of number of twins in the family.
