QuestionHello Dr. Rappaport,
I am 37 years old, have had 5 children. My periods are regular, every 30 days. My last period was on Dec. 14 so I'm a little late.
My husband had a vasectomy done 27 years ago. (He's 54.)
Is pregnancy a possibility? What are the chances of pregnancy?
Also, about a week before I get my period, I always have breast tenderness that goes away when my period starts, but not this month.
Thank you for your help.
AnswerIt is unlikely that your husband has produced any sperm if he had a vasectomy 27 years ago. Vasectomy is 99% effective against sperm production. It is doubtful that the vas deferens has "re-opened". If you have a 30 day cycle, and your last period started on December 14, you were due for your period on January 12. You are only 3 days late. If you do not get your period by January 19, take a pregnancy test. The lack of breast tenderness does not mean anything.
