QuestionHi, I asked a question of you the other day. I appreciate the answer. I have another question if you have time. I am 23, I had a miscarriage on the 1st of Jan. I stopped bleeding/spotting on the 6th. I started spotting again on the 21st. I believed that I ovulated around the 14th/15th because of my cervical mucus and cervical position. After about the 16th my mucus dried up. I was not testing for ovulation with the tests until after this time. When I started spotting on the 21st, I thought maybe this was implantation bleeding, however on the 24th the ovulation test, which had been negative became positive. It was positive again on the 25th, and the 26th. I tested today and it is now negative again. The hpt I took on the 26th was negative. I am confused because I believed I had already ovulated, and when the ovulation test tested positive I was not having fertile cervical mucus and my cervical position was low. The spotting has been very light and brown, it has become even lighter. I know you said that you recommend waiting after a cycle before trying again, but my OB said that it was alright for me to try again now. Looking at this information when do you believe I could have ovulated? When should I test for pregnancy? Any insight would be helpful as I am very confused. I also had heard that an ovulation test can become positive if a person is pregnant, I wondered if I ovulated on the 15th than would the ovulation test be showing I am pregnant when the hpt test does not. I have been feeling really tired, irritable, tearful, and my breast have been sore for the past few days. Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate your help.-------------------------

Question -
I am 23 years old. I miscarried on Jan 1st. I was pregnant with my 1st child. I was told that my progesterone was low, but they were unsure if that is what caused the miscarriage, or if it was low because I was going to miscarry. They said the level was a 5. My question is, after my miscarriage my last day of bledding/spotting was the 6th. I did not have any elevated Hgc levels after that. I started spotting very lightly on the 1/21 and am still very lightly spotting. It has been brown with only one small episode of red. I have been taking ovulation tests and today was the first time I tested positive for LH surge. Can this be ovulation spotting I am experiencing? Can I ovulate while spotting? Thank you so much for your help. I am so confused.

We usually recommend that after a miscarriage, you refrain from trying to conceive until you get a normal period. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. If you have a low progesterone level, we have found that progesterone supplementation can help decrease the risks of miscarriage. A level of 5 is considered low. If you miscarried on January 1 and bled until January 6, you probably were due for your next period 4 weeks later. You may have ovulated oln January 21, especially since you had an LH surge today. Therefore, the spotting is probably "midcycle spotting" or "ovulation bleeding". You certainly can have spotting around the time of ovulation as well as abdominal cramps on one side of the abdomen or the other.
AnswerI would not start trying to conceive until you have a normal period, in spite of what your own gyn says. Cervical mucus and position is a very "soft" sign of ovulation and I would put more stock in the ovualtion predictor test (a test for the release of LH) than anything else. An ovulation test NEVER can tell if you are pregnant or not. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven dasy after missing your next period. I would take a pregnancy test 14-21 days after the suspected day that you had sex. If it is negative, seven days after missing your next period, you are not pregnant. If you have a normal 28 day cyle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14.
