Lower Back Pain During Pregnancy: Causes, Relief & When to Worry

Question
hi,
this morning i woke up with terrible lower back pain. when i miscarried in november i hhad terrible lower bckpain too. is the same thing going to happen again? i am 61/2 weeks along. is lower back pain an inevitable sign?

Answer
Usually, a miscarriage starts with vaginal bleeding and abdominal cramping. It can, of course, be accompanied by lower backpain, but backpain is also common during pregnancy. As long as you are not bleeding, it usually is of no consequence. However, if you continue to have pain that is unresponsive to Tylenol or other pain medication, I would suggest that you consult your obstetrician and, perhaps, get a sonogram to assess fetal wellbeing. Good Luck.
