QuestionMy question is, I was told by my doctor that I have polycysts on my ovaries and that I am not ovulating each month,my husband and I have been trying for almost a year to have another child but have been unsuccessful. I recently had a d&c done for heavy bleeding and was wondering if the heavy bleeding was the cause of my inability to ovulate or is it due to the cysts?
AnswerHello Shawn from the U.S.,
Polycystic ovarian disease is an ovarian dysfunction whereby the ovaries do not process the brains hormones correctly and so ovulation does not occur. It is characterized by irregular or absent menstrual cycles. You should do a search on the web where you will find lots of information regarding this disorder. I also have an extensive amount of information on my blog. The other favorite source I use is wikipedia.
This disorder has nothing to do with the D&C you had previously, and nothing to do with "cysts". In fact, that name is incorrect and was given because by ultrasound it looks like there are a lot of small cysts in the ovary. These have nothing to do with the disorder.
Since you have been trying for over one year, I would recommend that you see a fertility specialist so that you can undergo proper testing and arrive at the appropriate treatment to get you pregnant.
