Understanding Negative Pregnancy Test Results & Cycle Changes
QuestionI never kept track of my cycles, but if I can remember correclty the first day of my last period was on/around 15Mar. I had unprotected sex w/ my husband on the 27th of Mar, and on the 30th I had some pink and brown discharge. The 31st was some clear discharge. The 1st was a lttle bit of pink again. Then the 2nd was clear again. The 3rd of April and today was very little pink again. I had a blood test today and it came back neg. Should I trust this since blood tests are supposed to be soo accurate? Or was it too early to test in the first place? Im just tired of having my hopes up if this test was probably true with its negative. I have HPV and that might be the cause for the spotting, but it has never been an issue before. I am probably going to have to have the leap surgery, but I have a colopsy scheduled for the 10th, which I think I may reschedule just to be sure I am not pregnant first. I did feel a little sick yesterday, today I was having weird headaches; Sharp pains in the back that lasted a few seconds at a time. I could be just imagining the sickness in hopes that I am pregnant.
AnswerDear Jackie,
This spotting could have been related to the HPV/cervical dysplasia if there is some inflammation or irritation there. It may also have been a bit of ovulation bleeding, as it would have been about the right time for that.
You may also have conceived if you had unprotected sex within a days or two of your ovulation day, which it sounds like you did. The test would have been done a little early. hCG would likely not be being produced yet in any significant amount if conception did take place just last week. In fact, I would not suggest testing until after a period is missed. This is usually approximately 3 weeks after conception.
It really is a personal decision for you as to whether you would want to re-schedule the colposcopy until after you see if you miss your period in the next couple of weeks.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and a Happy Easter!
